Janice Mounie, 88, of Virginia Beach, passed away at home on Thursday, July 28,
2022.
She was preceded in death by her five brothers and two sisters.
Janice was born on August 14, 1933 in Grifton, North Carolina to Celia Cannon
Worthington and Johnnie Cannon. She graduated from East Carolina University,
and retired as a teacher from Brandon Middle School with Virginia Beach Public
Schools.
Janice is survived by her daughters Laura Yoakam (husband Paul) and Julie
Palmer; four grandchildren Brian Yoakam (wife Emily), Jessica Provow (husband
Brad), James Palmer (wife Maggie), and Bethany Palmer; eight great-
grandchildren Benjamin and Miles; Owen; Isabella and Elly; and Darryl,
Alexandria, and Orion. She was “Great” to them.
Janice is remembered for her devotion to her family, her giving nature, and her
loving kindness to all.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd at Church of the Ascension
Catholic Church on Princess Anne Road at 11am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12pm.
Interment will immediately follow at Colonial Grove Memorial Park on Princess Anne Road.

We were saddened by the news of our dear neighbor’s passing. Janice was our favorite elderly lady, who always greeted us with welcoming smile and kind words. She will be greatly missed – Ela and Tomek
