Jane Darden Guffie, 69, of Virginia Beach, VA, went to be with the Lord on the evening of July 24, 2023. Born on July 15, 1954 to Raymond and Lola Darden, Jane’s life was filled with compassion, creativity, and an unwavering dedication to her family and friends.

Jane was a beloved primary education teacher for VBCPS for 33 years. Her passions extended far beyond the classroom. She possessed a talent for scrapbooking, a deep interest in Virginia Beach history, and a knack for creating beautiful wreaths and flower arrangements. Her creative spirit shone brightly, and she found joy in every intricate detail. When she wasn’t immersed in her hobbies, Jane cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

Jane attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. Her commitment to her faith guided her actions and served as a source of strength throughout her life.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lola Darden, and her late husband Thomas “Tony” Guffie.

Jane will be fondly remembered by her surviving family and friends, including her son Kevin Guffie (Megan), her daughter Leslie Clark, grandchildren, Cheyanne and Haylee Clark, and Roland Guffie, her sister Patricia White (Jimmy). Although Jane is no longer with us, her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., at Immanuel Baptist Church, located at 1012 N. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, VA.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, a cause that held significant meaning to Jane.

Jane Darden Guffie leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a passion for education. May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace, knowing that she touched countless lives and inspired all who had the privilege of knowing her.

My prayers go to you all. Great memories through the years from Holland Elementary, Bowling and catching up with me at Home Depot. Such a fun and caring friend. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.

How the years have passed. Your parents took me with you to church at Foundry UMC. I joined the church the same day they did as Rev Ebert gave that altar call and it was the beginning of my life given to the Lord. Who would have ever guessed that the Darden’s kind gesture would lead a shy young girl to become a pastor, even now serving a full time UMC appointment at age 75. Patricia, I remember how we would splash in the pool of water on the street after a heavy rain and throwing small stones up to the bats under the light on the corner by your house. Trivial I know but memories just the same. Through the years I have remembered your family and been thankful for your part in leading me to Christ. God’s blessings and grace as you walk through this valley. Love to all. Loretta Bolton.

My heart is saddened by the loss of my cousin and childhood friend, Janie.
Even though Janie is no longer with us, I pray that we will see her again one day. 🙏
I am so grateful to have spent time with Janie and her family; Uncle Raymond, Aunt Lola, and her sister, Patricia.
So many cherished memories!
Sunday afternoons were so much fun at Grandma Culver’s house, as our aunts, uncles, and cousins gathered for family get togethers.
Janie will be missed by all of us!
May her family find peace during this difficult time. 🕊
Much love,
Susan Woolard

Dave and I are praying for all of you, especially Pat and Leslie who worshipped with us for years. We appreciate you having brought Janie to us as well. You could not be in her presence for long before she had you laughing. And when she and Pat got together, they knew how to share their fun. Janie really knew how to celebrate life here so we can’t imagine her being any less in Heaven with a perfect body and heart.
