|Our beloved father, James “Jim” Procopis, 87, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017 only 3 short months after his wife of 55 years. Originally from Greece, he came to the US as a teen. He served his new country for more than 30 years, first in the Army and later as a Foreign Service Officer, serving in numerous posts in Africa and Central America. He shared his love for learning, languages (he spoke 5), art (prolific painter and sculptor), music and dance, travel and fascination with his heritage, with his family. He was avowed tennis nut, playing well into his eighties. Later in life ping pong and croquet became his pastime which he enjoyed very much. Those who knew him will miss his kindness, smile, zest for life, insatiable curiosity, and humor.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Barnes and her family, David, Noah and Grayson, son, Alexander Procopis, brother, Plato, nephews, Anthony, George, Bill, Christopher, Stephanie, Pericles and Paris.
The family would like to say a special thank you to friends and care givers who looked after him after his wife passed. You helped make his remaining time the best it could be.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster-Canterbury, 3100 Shore Drive, Trinity Chapel, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 on Monday, July 24 at 1PM. The family will receive guests at the Penthouse Lounge/East Tower directly after.
