James “Jimmy” Herbert Dahlin passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday September 5, 2015. Jimmy was born on January 22, 1966 in Great Lakes, Illinois to the late Jon Dahlin and Hilda (Decker) Jensen. Aside from his parents he was predeceased by his sisters Lisa Dahlin and Pauline Dahlin Marshburn and his step-father Arlen B. Jensen. Jimmy is survived by his aunts Marion Decker, Marie Edwards, Carolyn Sabatino and her husband Frank, his nephew Bobby Marshburn Jr and his niece Erica Marshburn, along with a host of other relatives.
Jimmy was a lifelong Norfolk resident. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Norfolk. He loved going to Tides baseball games and cheering on the Monarchs at ODU basketball games. He was a huge fan of Michael Jackson. Jimmy enjoyed memberships to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens and the Virginia Aquarium. Jimmy loved animals and spent years volunteering at the Animal Assistance League, Norfolk Animal Care and the Virginia Zoo. Jimmy’s smile and laugh were infectious. He lived life to the fullest whether it was hiking, swimming, hanging out with friends or riding the roller coasters at Busch gardens.
Jimmy will be greatly missed by his friends at Hope House Foundation. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will take place on Monday September 14, 2015 at 1pm at St. John Lutheran Church, located at 8918 Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. He will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery on Granby St. in Norfolk.
