Jacqueline “Jackie” Marie (Tyree) Bolden, 84, passed away on January 17, 2022 in Newport News, VA. Born in Roanoke Virginia on September 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Addie Lue (Calloway) and Robert A. Tyree Sr., and was one of 10 children.
In addition to her parents, Jackie is preceded in death by her husband Priestly A. Williams Jr. in 1959, daughter Sheila D. Williams, grandchildren Rasheim N. Miller, Priestly L. and Will E. Williams, and siblings Juanita, Bernice, Shirley, Robert, Thomas, and Richard Tyree.
Jackie was a devoted Mother, Granny, Auntie, Sister, and Friend, who stayed connected with daily phone calls and never forgot to send a card on special occasions. She was a fiercely independent woman, a born caregiver, an excellent cook (the best fried chicken!), in her years as a barmaid she could remember everyone’s favorite drink, and she referred to Bingo as her part-time job. Most importantly, Jackie loved to make and give her beautiful crocheted blankets to her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Surviving family members are children Priestly A. Williams III (Jennifer), Sheryl Cantrell (Larry Garmon), and Kevin Bolden; sisters Barbara Tyree, Louise (Tyree) Hodge, Claudine (Tyree) Huff, and sister-in-law Donna Tyree; grandchildren Erica Williams (Terrance Long), Cassandra Garmon (Jayson Chriss), Iman Johnson (Marcus), Micah (Janie), Gabriel, Miles, and Rafer T. Williams; great grandchildren Terrence II, Terren, Tieran, Tionna, Jasmyn, and Ja’Laya, Mekhi, Miana, Kaliyah, Kameron, Amerie, Juliana, Isaiah, Chris, and Jadyn; great great grandchildren Terrance III, Ta’Liyah, and Mekhi Jr.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 19th at 2pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Home Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA 23608. Masks and social distancing required. Livestream will be available on the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jackie’s name to the American Heart Association, www2.heart.org/goto/Jackie_Bolden. Thank you to the staff of Warwick Gardens. The family is especially thankful to Ms. Bessie Little for her years of help and friendship, and the friends and neighbors of Wellesley Commons.
