Jack Janis, Jr., 87, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017. He was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service, where he served in Korea and Vietnam. Following retirement, he was a research lab technician with B.A.S.F. for 24 years.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. His favorite place to be was outside, whether in his garden, feeding the squirrels, at hunt camp or just grilling for the family. He spent his last days surrounded by his family, including his four great grandsons.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Maria Janis, the love of his life and mother of his four children, Jack Edward Janis (Bonnie) of Clover, S.C., Donna Janis Armstrong (Clif) of Ft. Mill, S.C., Christine “Sisi” Janis Pittman (Jon) of Woodbridge and R. Michael Janis (Mary Lynn) of Newport News; his siblings, Ralph Janis (Barbara) of Greensburg, Penn., Kenneth Queen (Eloise) of Lancaster, Penn., Joan Throm and Richard Fait (Sandy) all of Greensburg, Penn.; eleven beloved grandchildren, Laura, Lindsey, Brandon, Andrew, Mac, Izabel, Suki, Drew, Sean, George, and Jack Michael; and four great-grandchildren, Eric, Jaxon, Jordan and Ben.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel. A funeral service with full military honors will be held 10 am Friday, July 14, 2017, at the funeral home, followed by private burial.
