Funeral Mass

Isabelo Delizo Ferrera, 71, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 while en route to the Philippines with his loving wife of 47 years, Florence Ferrera.
Isabelo, more commonly known as Billy, was born November 5, 1951 to Gabriel and Coloriana Ferrera in Naguilian, La Union, Philippines. He graduated in 1968 from Baguio City High School, where he first crossed paths with Florence, the love of his life.
After graduating from high school, Billy joined the United States Navy. He was ranked as an E-7 Chief Petty Officer and served for 20 years, from 1971 to 1991. While in the U.S. Navy, Billy attended online classes through St. Leo College, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management in 1991. Subsequently, he enrolled in the DePaul School of Nursing in Norfolk, graduating in 1995, the same year his son graduated from high school. Billy worked as a Registered Nurse on the telemetry unit at DePaul Hospital until he retired in 2015.
Billy and Florence became pen pals after he graduated from high school. Their first date was not until 3 years later, in 1970 at Baguio City Mines View Park. They were married in Las Vegas on May 26, 1975. Together they shared two children, Marc and Marisa.
Billy’s family meant the world to him. He enjoyed weekly dinners with his family and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. He delighted in traveling with his wife, visiting multiple countries together including Japan, Pakistan, France, Monaco, Italy, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Dominican Republic, the Bahamas and Jamaica. Billy’s other interests included gardening, bowling and being a proud member of the Fentress Freemasons and the Knights of Rizal in Virginia Beach.
In addition to his parents, Billy was predeceased by his siblings Antonio, Leovina, and Medardo and his niece Rose Anne. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Florence; his son Marc H. Ferrera, MD and his wife Michelle of St. Johns, FL; his daughter Marisa F. Hofmann, MD and her husband Jeff of Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren, Alexander, Isabella, Luke and Brandon; his siblings Ricardo, Mercuria, Concesa and Genoviva; as well as numerous dear family members and friends.
Visitations will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 16 and from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr. in Virginia Beach. A wake liturgy is planned at 6:00 pm on Friday, February 17 at the funeral home. The funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7800 Halprin Dr. in Norfolk. Condolences may be left below.
