Holly Harrell Luning, 61, passed away in Virginia Beach on February 24, 2022. Holly was born in Norfolk, VA, and was the daughter of the late Willard F. Harrell Jr. and the late Betty V. Harrell. Ms. Luning graduated from Lake Taylor High School, obtained a Bachelor’s degree at Old Dominion University, and a Master’s at Regent University. She retired from Norfolk Public Schools after thirty-four years of service as an elementary school teacher and librarian. Holly enjoyed dancing, traveling, and having fun with family and friends. She loved animals, children, great stories, and learning new things.
Holly is survived by her daughter, Hope Luning; brothers, Willard “Frank” Harrell, Timothy Harrell, and Matthew Harrell, of Virginia Beach.
A memorial service will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 18, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr. in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, please click HERE to make a contribution in Holly’s name to the REACH Literacy Program.

Much love to you Hope and your family! Holly held a special place in my heart since you and I grew up together. We all spent a lot time together through the cheerleading years, and Holly was always ready to lend a hand at our school activities like our 10 yr HS reunion. She will be missed.
