Virginia Beach – Gloria Spruill Whitehurst, 76, died September 27, 2015.  Gloria was born in Princess Anne County to the late Solomon and Martha Craddock Spruill.  She was predeceased by son, Robert.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, P.J. Whitehurst, Jr.; daughter, Paula Knight (Barry); son, Randolph Whitehurst; grandsons, Hunter, Kyle and Forrest Knight; and brother, Harold Lloyd Spruill (Blanche)
Gloria was a faithful, lifelong member , Sunday school teacher and pianist at Blackwater Baptist Church.  She also taught piano to many for over 40 years and she taught music to many children at Knotts Island Elementary School.
She loved her family oh so much, especially her grandsons.  When they were little, they spent many a day/night at her house.  They loved going there because she and grandpa spent many hours playing games and cards with them.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at Blackwater Baptist Church with Dr. Lynn Hardaway officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blackwater Baptist Church.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.altmeyerfh.com.

Mr. Whitehurst, Paula, Randolph, and family; We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Whitehurst. Mom and Dad send their sincere condolences as well. I have fond memories of fun filled summers spent playing softball, with all our moms in the stands cheering us on. May God continue to comfort and bless you all. Sincerely, Brenda Sharpe/Waterfield

Our heartfelt prayers to all of you! The deeper the love, the deeper the sadness, but I know you wouldn’t trade a single second. Cherish those beautiful memories, and know in your heart that she is with God.

My thoughts and prayers for your family. I was a piano student of Mrs. Whitehurst. She was a wonderful lady and I learned a great appreciation for music from her.
