Virginia Beach – Geoffrey Lynwood “Geoff” Sweeney, 59, passed away with family at his side on September 30, 2015. He was born on May 10, 1956, in Hagerstown, MD.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 26 years, Pia Aragon Sweeney and his son, Jacob Geoffrey “Jake” Sweeney; his parents Herman and Charity Sweeney;  his sister Cheryl Raleigh & her husband Michael, his brother Kevin Sweeney &  wife Olha Palych, and his niece,  Kathryn Emelia Sweeney.  Also sharing in grief are Geoff’s father and mother-in-law Ernesto & Justina Aragon; sisters-in-law Andrea Aragon & husband Martin Meichsner, Isabel Aragon and Lydia Lavendia; his brother-in-law Victor Aragon with nephew Elias Aragon and niece Lyra Aragon.
Geoff grew up in Hagerstown, Maryland where he attended St. Mary’s School and St. Maria Goretti High School, graduating from St. Mary’s College with a degree in Business. He loved nature, especially mountains and delighted in taking his family on long walks.  He was passionate about classic cars and antique tractors and was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers. Geoff was a history buff and an avid reader and researcher, whether it was about diesel engines, civil war events or companies in the Nasdaq 500.  At the time of his passing, he was a stock trader, managed a real property business and restored antique tractors.  A devoted husband and father, he loved spending time with his family.  He enjoyed the simple things in life like bonfires, a cold beer, or conversations with old friends.  Geoff was a kind, funny and graceful man… loving and beloved by family and friends.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 11:00 in Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Interment will be at the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Emmitsburg, MD in November.
Geoff loved trees.  In lieu of flowers, a tree may be planted in his memory.  Memorial donations may also be made to the American Heart Association. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyerfh.com

Geoff was such a delightful man to know. I really felt like our friendship was growing, and that we would be spending more time together in the future. I am so sorry that we did not have more fun days enjoying good beer, the outdoors, and a friendship that ended too soon. I promise to Geoff that we will be good friends to Pia and Jake, and that we will always be there for her
