Fred James Vernon “CC”, 81, of Hampton, VA passed away peacefully on August 30, 2022. He was born in California on November 24, 1940 and grew up in Arizona. After joining the Army, he was stationed in Korea and then to Fort Monroe. During his insurance career he earned his Certified Life Underwriters designation and established his own Agency, Vernon & Co. One of his great passions was to be outdoors and he enjoyed all types of hunting. Left to honor his memory are his beloved wife Shirley J. Vernon, Children Michelle Arrington Slabinski (Joe) and Monique Vandegrift (David), as well as Grandchildren Nicole, Kirsten, Zachary, and a Great Grandson Derrick. Altmeyer Funeral Homes-Riverside Chapel is assisting with the arrangement. Graveside service for Fred J. Vernon, CLU will be at Old Brick Church Cemetery, Bacon’s Castle, Friday September 2nd at 11 AM, where it was his desire to be put to rest, in close proximity to his cherished hunting grounds.
I knew Fred when I was in high school in Flagstaff, Az. I wish we could have known each other as adults.
I deeply regret the lost of Mr.Fred Vernon I took great pleasure working and caring for Mr.Vernon. I will always remember his smile in the mornings and the funny jokes he made. My uncle Fred I will miss you and remember you always. Love you
