Evelyn L. Cherry Sarro, 89, of Chesapeake, passed away on January 18, 2023. Evelyn was second youngest of eight children born to the late Clyde L. and Annie M. Speight Cherry on May 15, 1933. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Merriam “Snooks” Swindler, Wavley L. Cherry, James E. “Bud” Cherry, Dorothy V. “Dot” Hufton, Clyde W. “Buck” Cherry Sr., Elizabeth C. “Wink” St. Jacques, and Tully W. “Tubbles” Cherry.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Lori D. Sarro, of Chesapeake, and Stephen S. Sarro, of Chesapeake; grandson, Justin B. Selby (Jackie), of Michigan; great-granddaughters Jocelyn and Harper Selby; sister-in-law Gloria J. Cherry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn retired as the office manager for over 40 years at Randolph-Bundy Lumber Inc., formally known as Dalton Bundy Lumber Co. Evelyn attended Good Hope United Methodist Church where she was a past leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship and a member of the choir. Evelyn deeply enjoyed spending time with her family, whether it be family events or just playing board games with her sisters, it didn’t matter as long as she was with family. Evelyn was a good, kind-hearted woman and she was the family caregiver.

A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023 at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Chesapeake Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Chesapeake Chapel, with a graveside committal service at Good Hope United Methodist Church to follow.

Flowers are appreciated or Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
