Erlinda Valdes Iglesias, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born on March 19, 1955, in Manila, Philippines. Erlinda was a remarkable woman whose life was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Graduating from the Arellano University High School in Manila, Erlinda embarked on a fulfilling career as a Medical Clerk in the billing department. After years of dedicated service, she retired and cherished the time spent with her family, creating countless precious memories together.

Throughout her life, Erlinda’s greatest joy came from the love and support of her family. She married the love of her life, with whom she shared a deep bond with for over 50 years, Ricardo Iglesias, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Olivia Smith (Derek) , Ricardo R. Iglesias (Rebekah), and Elaine Iglesias.

Erlinda’s warmth and love extended to her grandchildren, Noelle Ehlers,Taylor Smith, and Gia Iglesias who brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Her great-grandchildren, Dominic Perez, Lola Ehlers, and Everlynn Smith brought her so much joy. While her health prevented her from traveling to see her grand-children and great-grandchildren she took great delight in watching them grow through photos and FaceTiming.Erlinda was one of seven siblings, and her brothers Ramon Valdes, Eduardo Valdes, and William Gentry, along with her sisters  Birgita Hernlem, FeMarieTapper, and Teresa Pajarillo, shared a strong bond that provided unwavering support throughout their lives.

For 44 years, Erlinda resided in Norfolk, Virginia, where she cultivated lasting friendships and touched the lives of many. Her caring nature and genuine concern for others left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Erlinda had a flair for fashion and was known for her eccentric style of clothing and her love for her favorite game of Bingo. You could often find her in her favorite spot with her lucky charm trinkets dressed in her flashy clothing as if it were her part-time job. She met many of her closest friends in the “halls of Bingo”.

I am so sorry I won’t be able to attend. Erlinda worked for me for many years and I’d see her at bingo. She was always kind and thoughtful and humorous. She will be greatly missed. Elaine, you and your family and father have my deepest sympathy.

Olivia and family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers. May you rejoice in knowing she is healed from her earthly burdens and will always be with you in spirit. May the life she lead and the love she gave carry you all until you are together again. All our love , NC Smiths
