Elmer Russell Smith, Jr., affectionately known as Buddy, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023, at the age of 70. He was born on June 22, 1953, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Elmer Smith, Sr. and Ann Lee Hughes Samero. Buddy’s life was filled with love, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of family, woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors.

From a young age of 12, Buddy began his journey as a Professional Framer, honing his skills and dedicating himself to his craft. His meticulous attention to detail and passion for his work earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Buddy cherished his family above all else. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Rose Marie Smith, and a loving father to his children, Elmer R. Smith III, Christy R. Smith, and Sandra L. Warren. His grandchildren, Justice, Alexia, Breanna, Shane Jr., Abigail, Raylynn, and Elmer IV “Bubba,” brought immeasurable joy to his life.

In addition to his immediate family, Buddy is survived by his brother, Russel H. Smith, his brother, Joseph Gilbert Smith, his sister, Dianna Stokley, and his sister, Sandra Raez. Buddy was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Flora Mae and Doris Ann, who welcomed him into eternity.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Buddy’s life. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, located at 929 S. Battlefield Blvd Chesapeake 23322.

A graveside service to honor Buddy’s life will take place on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 11 am in Moyock Memorial Cemetery.

In Buddy’s memory, may we all strive to appreciate the beauty of nature, embrace hard work, and above all, cherish the love and bond of family. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
