Elisa Sellers was born in Madrid, Spain, to Manuel de Aristizabal and Elisa Ardois de Aristizabal on August 24, 1932. She married William Albert Sellers, Sr, a marriage that lasted until his passing in 1989. She graduated as magna cum laude from Old Dominion University, where she held degrees in Spanish and Library Science. She worked as a teacher for Peninsula Catholic High School and Denbigh High School in the Hampton Roads area, as well as the JFK Warfare School in Fort Bragg, NC, and she was also the school librarian for Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Corpus Christi, TX until her retirement. She was faculty advisor for the Peninsula Catholic quiz team and the Peninsula Catholic Chess Club. She received high honors for her work and scholastic achievements, including a 99% score on the National Teachers Exam and honorary membership in Phi Theta Kappa and and Sigma Delta Pi. Elisa also enjoyed making arts and crafts, and she was active in the Corpus Christi doll club, where she collected and repaired antique dolls and designed doll clothes for her doll collection.
Elisa is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Elisa de Aristizabal, her husband William Sellers, Sr., as well as her brother, Manuel de Aristizabal. However, she is survived by her three children: William A. Sellers, Jr., Elisa Sellers Angelo, and Steven Sellers. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Carlos de Aristizabal, and her sister, Maria Nice, as well as her three grandchildren, Liana McCreary, Sean Angelo, and A.J. Sellers, and her great-grandson, Hendrix McCreary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to either to the Alzheimer’s Association (or any Alzheimer’s charity of your choice) or the Hampton or Virginia Beach library systems.
Elisa passed away on June 16, 2023, in Virginia Beach at the age of 90. Funeral services for Elisa Sellers will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at the Altmeyer Riverside location with Keith Worrell officiating. Arrangements are by Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory.
