Eike Mary Cochran, née Braren, loving wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother passed away April 15, 2022 in Virginia Beach, Virginia of natural causes at her home. Eike was born July 24, 1931 to Emma Caroline Braren, née Peetz and Cornelius Friedrich Braren in Glücksburg Germany.
As a young girl she spent her summers on the beach, playing with her friends in the forest, or visiting her grandmother on the Island Föhr, in the North Sea. During the winter she spent her time ice skating on the Schloßsee, playing in the snow, or sledding down the many hills in her village. As she grew older she helped her Father, a Master Cabinet Maker in his business and then worked as a Secretary in a travel agency in Sweden. She visited New York City on a cruise ship with colleagues and friends before she met and married her Husband, Virgil Fontaine Cochran on July 19,1964.
Together they raised two sons, Virgil (Ricki) of Chesapeake and Mark of Newburg, PA. Eike loved gardening, especially roses and azaleas, music, singing, reading, and helping anyone who needed a hand. She would play on her piano daily and would work tirelessly keeping two rambunctious sons in line. Next to her children and grandchildren, her house and her yard were her pride and joy. She spent countless hours maintaining the house and keeping the yard and flower beds in top shape.
Eike was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Inge and her brother, Früd Volkert. She is survived by her two sons Virgil (Ricki) and Mark, their wives Christa and Melanie, many nieces, nephews, and her beloved grandchildren.
Altmeyer Funeral Home-Southside Chapel is handling the arrangements for a graveside service on Tuesday, May 10, which will be livestreamed here, and available for viewing.
