Edward A. Hosegood (Ted), age 88, born November 15, 1933, London, England and died at home with his wife in Williamsburg, James City County Va. on. Tuesday May 10, 2022. Sentara Hospice Care gave him five and half weeks of superior home care and were with him to the end. We all marveled at his spirit and humor during his most trying time. Ted was preceded in death by Father, Arthur Hosegood and Mother, Violet Cummins Hosegood; Brother, Donald Hosegood and Brother-in-Law, Anthony Miles, Niece, Joanna Balmforth, all deceased in England.
Ted spent his career with DuPont Company as a Senior Research Chemist. He earned them many patents. After retirement in 1993 he and his wife, Lynn fulfilled a dream and returned to live in their native England for three years in the picturesque village of Mortehoe, N.Devon, England. They never tired of the view of the ocean and walked the National Coastal Paths of the Southwest Counties taking sketch book and lunch with wine. Any imminent coastal storm caused Ted to walk to Morte Point, pin himself between rocks, watch and feel the storm, rain and surf around him. He was a keen gardener and loved to dig in the soil, creating many gardens from scratch when Dupont transferred him to different locations to work at The Experimental Station, Wilmington, Seaford, Delaware plant and Richmond, Virginia plant. He made treasured friends during his career among them, Yinka Adeyiga who stood as his best man at Ted and Lynn’s wedding in 1985. The family are thankful that Yinka and his wife, Bidema were able to spend much time with him during his last days.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Torry Hosegood, his son: Che` Monte Torry and daughter-in-law Ann Lindsay Torry; Grandchildren: Declan James Edward Torry, Brynn Elise Torry and Camden Alexis Torry. His siblings, Pat Miles, Barbara Balmforth; sister-in-law Rita Hosegood; Nieces Donita Hosegood, Janine Hosegood and husband Ralph Pantelites, Larissa Hosegood Simoes and husband Charles Simoes; Nephew Peter Balmforth and wife Jane Balmforth.
His gentleness and kindness will be sadly missed.
