Virginia Beach – Edmund Herring, 84, formerly of Levittown, PA., Salisbury, MD., and Destin, FL., passed away Friday, August 14, 2015 at Atlantic Shores Seaside in Virginia Beach. He was born in Philadelphia, PA. on March 8, 1931 to the late Harry and Anna Kasselman Herring.
Eddie worked in pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and was self-employed for 30 years running a window treatment business with his wife Marcy in Salisbury, Maryland.  He was very innovative and loved to fix things to see “what makes it tick”. He also enjoyed boating, the beach, painting artistic pictures, gardening, traveling and dancing with Marcy.  In fact, Marcy and Ed were usually the last couple on the dance floor at closing time.
Eddie enjoyed people and made new friends every place he visited. His family fondly referred to him as FESA — short for Friendly Ed Strikes Again — whenever he would disappear only to be found actively engaged with a group of new acquaintances. His fellowship crossed over to volunteerism as well. He volunteered at Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, Florida, in Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center and at Atlantic Shores on various committees and on the council. He was a member of the Ludwig Lodge Brith Shalom in Philadelphia and was an associate Life Member of Hadassah.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Marcy Herring; son, Michael Herring (Sherry); son, Charles Herring (Terry); daughter, Joyce Herring Bolton; and five grandchildren: Sarah, Lisa, Kelsey, Craig and Tyler. Eddie will be greatly missed by his family and friends — he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 2PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St., Norfolk with Rabbi Marc Kraus officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jewish Family Service of Tidewater (jfshamptonroads.org) or to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (myasthenia.org). So sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. We didn’t have a chance to meet your Dad but he and your Mom raised a wonderful daughter. Dave and I are holding you in our thoughts.

I’m so sorry to hear your Dad has passed over, but I do like to believe his with family and friends basking in the glow and for them, it’s a better place. Hard for us to appreciate that fully, but it is a comfort for me, and I hope for you, to keep the idea in mind, that while we miss our loved ones constantly, they are at peace and thriving in a way we can’t understand. Love to you. –tikitom

We are so terribly sorry to hear of Ed’s passing! Ed and Marcy were wonderful neighbors of ours in Destin, FL who became more like family. We will miss him dearly and feel so fortunate to have known this kind man. Marcy, you and your family will be in our deepest thoughts and prayers. We will never forget lighting the Menorah at your house during Chanukkah many years ago as Ed taught my son a little about the holiday and its meaning and having you guys over to our house on Christmas morning for breakfast and gifts. Sending you lots of hugs and love from Florida. Heaven surely gained an angel.
