The incredible life of Doris Stewart Collier ended on Wed., Nov. 1, 2023 when she was personally welcomed into Heaven after 91 amazing years.  She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gary Bernard Collier Sr., and their 5 sons and their wives, Gary & Becky of Leesburg, GA, Randy & Claire of Nashville TN, Ted & Angela, David & Jeana, Kenneth & Deanne, and another loving daughter in law, Ginger Hughes of Virginia Beach.  She also had 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was born in Memphis, TN on October 28th, 1932 to Gene and Celia Belle Stewart. They moved to Spartanburg, SC where her brother Leon was born before moving to Norfolk, VA.  Her life and beliefs and values were shaped by her steadfast, godly parents. Doris was a precocious child – she skipped a grade in school and graduated Norview High School in 1948 at 15 years old.  She was a talented pianist and their house was a central gathering place for the young people in Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church in Norfolk.

She married her forever love, Gary Bernard Collier Sr., on Sept. 20, 1958.  They lived out a beautiful love story for 65 years.  She had 5 sons, who were her life and joy.  Although outnumbered as the only female living in a house with 6 males, she was completely in charge.  She cooked, cleaned, washed, ironed, folded, scrubbed, shopped for, and doctored 5 boys while maintaining a spotless house at all times. She preached and modeled Jesus every day to her husband and her boys.  She was an evangelist at heart, and constantly reached out and preached to those she could despite the communication challenges of her profound hearing loss.

She was determined in her convictions, fierce in her loyalty, and unwavering in her love for Bernard and her family.  She reveled in the accomplishments of her boys and adored her grandchildren, especially the girls!  Her charge to everyone was “God can’t just be number one in your life – He has to be your ALL!”.  Doris was a faithful Bible reader who believed in Sanctification and loved Christ and Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church.

There will be a Memorial Service held in Virginia on Sunday, November 5th, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church, 1477 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA 23320.

There will also be a viewing at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church in Perry, GA on Friday, November 10th, 2023 at 7:00 pm and the Funeral will be held on Saturday, November 11th, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church, 2500 N Hwy 41, Fort Valley, GA 31030.
