Doris Arnett Flick

November 8, 1922 - May 2, 2022

11/08/1922 - 05/02/2022

Doris Arnett Flick passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. She was born in Hurlock, Maryland on November 8, 1922. She was the daughter of John Albert Arnett and Emma Stokes Arnett. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Charles Flick, and her siblings- Margaret Anne Pennypacker, Evelyn Arnett, Mabel Arnett, Edna Arnett Fluharty, Francis Arnett Lord, Calvin Arnett, Lloyd Arnett, and Albert Arnett.

Prior to moving “in town,” her formative years were spent on the family farm outside of Hurlock. Following high school graduation, she successfully completed nursing training in Salisbury, Maryland earning her Diploma as a Registered Nurse. Eventually moving away from the Eastern Shore (which always remained close in heart) to Prince George’s County, Maryland, and gained employment at Prince George’s Hospital. She met and married a handsome young man by the name of Charles Flick, and moved to Silver Spring, whereupon she began work at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, and eventually retired from nursing with her last position at Carriage Hill Nursing Home in Bethesda, Maryland. Many gatherings and travels were shared throughout her career with co-workers who became life-long family friends. Neighborhood friends became family as did so many acquaintances met during travelling or daily life.

She fully embraced motherhood spending time as an elementary school room mother (I believe for every grade), shuttling kids to ice skating lessons, swimming lessons, piano lessons, Camp Fire Girls, Gymnastics, and church choir. She crafted award winning hook and braided rugs, stitched beautiful crewel embroidery pieces, and enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, and antiquing. In later years, she and Charles enjoyed traveling stateside and overseas. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Left to cherish and honor her memory is her daughter Sarah (Sally) Anzick, son in law Philip Anzick Jr., grandson Alexander Anzick, granddaughter Hazel Anzick, nieces, and nephews. Friends are invited to share their condolences with the family at www.Altmeyer.com. A private service for the family will be held at Arlington National Cemetery for both Doris and Charles Flick.
