David Wilkerson Hill, 81, transitioned from this life on December 31, 2023, in Newport News, VA. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends at the time of his passing.

A true Virginia native, David was born on April 23,1942 in Staunton, VA, into the loving home of Rudolph and Reva T. Hill. He grew up surrounded by his brothers and sister, and later in life, when establishing a family of his own, settled in Hampton, Va.

David lived a fulfilling life, dedicating himself to serving others in various capacities. He worked as a Nurse, serving in hospitals, nursing homes, private care, and even the correctional system. Additionally, he served as a Medic for 22 years and retired from the Air National Guard. David’s dedication to helping others extended beyond his professional life. He was an ordained Deacon and Elder, faithfully serving his community.

Throughout his life, David pursued his passions wholeheartedly. He was a talented Professional Drummer and found joy in expressing himself through music. David was also a committed student of theology, attending Norfolk State University and Carolina University of Theology. He obtained certifications in various medical fields, including being a Certified Emergency Medical Technician and completing therapeutic communication training at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute.

David will be deeply missed by his loved ones. He is survived by his devoted spouse of 61 years, Barbara Hill, from Hampton, VA. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and companionship. David is also survived by his children, Karla Francisco from Chesapeake, VA, and Katrina Hobley from Newport News, VA. His grandchildren, Tiffany Francisco, Steven Francisco, Taylor Francisco, Alysia Tau, Kaylena Tau, and Joseph Hobley Jr., held a special place in his heart. David was blessed to have a great-grandchild, Gia Wilson, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved greatly.

Services to honor David’s memory will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Altmeyer Denbigh Chapel located at 12893 Jefferson Ave., Newport News, VA. Following the service, a repast will be held at the Christ Community Outreach Center, situated at 13809 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA.

David’s final resting place will be at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. Internment will take place at 2 pm on Friday, January 12, 2023.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Willis Boyd and the entire Christ Community Outreach Center Family for their unwavering support during this difficult time.

To Barbara Hill, Karla Francisco, Katrina Hobley, Family & Friends: David was a wonderful Brother in Law who loved God, his family, and, his country. I use to call him the real bionic man from all the operations he had; however, to my surprise right after an operation, I would see him singing in the choir. David loved God’s people and coming to church. We will all miss David until we see him smiling again with Jesus.
