Daniel (Danny) E. Murphy passed away peacefully Friday, May 19, 2023 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Danny was  born May 8, 1957 to Jack and Ellen Murphy in Richmond, Virginia.  Danny moved to Norfolk as a child where he  developed a passion for fishing with his Dad and uncle.  As a teenager, he moved to Virginia Beach where he worked at his uncle’s seafood market, Murphy Brother’s Seafood.  Danny was a graduate of Kempsville High School. He used braun, charm and wit to secure the title of CBO (Chief Bar Operations) with many of the Virginia Beach oceanfront resort establishments. After deferring a year at Harvard, Danny taught his pup, Roscoe a Labrador Shepard mix, arithmetic by barking out square-root mathematical answers.  In addition Danny trained Roscoe to meet the Second Alarm cooks at the back door to retrieve a back slab of ribs for Danny that they’d enjoy together.  Danny could often be found tending to important business at his favorite watering holes throughout the Hampton Roads area.  His favorites included Corner Market, The Reef, Sullivans, Dockside, and Froggies.

In 2003, the once eternal bachelor, met his soulmate and wife Holly of 20 years and was introduced to the Lynnhaven Colony bay life where he embraced the role of fatherhood to a teenage daughter.  Danny ran a landscaping company for twenty-five years, alongside one of his dearest friends, Bob Prodan and continued to share his landscape knowledge with friends, family and neighbors. His larger than life personality, yet truly authentic self, Danny was loved by all who crossed his path. He lived for driving lifted trucks, heavy equipment and spent endless summer days on his boat with a cold Miller Light. Always by his side, was one of his trusted canines, Roscoe or Maverick or most recently, Macke and his four year-old granddaughter, Esther.

Preceded in death is Danny’s Father, Jack Murphy and Mother, Ellen Murphy.  Danny left this world clear eyed and clear hearted, leaving behind his wife, Holly Murphy, Daughter, Morgan Clark (Jake) and grand-daughter Esther as well as his sisters, Bonnie (Pete) and Kathy (Michael), niece, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

A service will be held at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, 1969 Woodside Lane, Virginia Beach on Saturday May 27th at 2pm. Danny’s Celebration of Life will be held afterwards at Froggie’s, 3656 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach.

Holly, Bonnie, Kathy, and to all family I extend my deepest condolences. Danny was in my life for far too short a time but he made a huge impact and will be remembered as a truly dear friend and certainly one of the nicest people I’ve ever known. He will be very much missed.
