Gates, NC – Cheryl Meril Jenkins, 59, died on Friday, January 27, 2017.  Cheryl was born in Sauk City, WI to the late Charles and Dolores Lockwood Royston.  She was a loving daughter, a dependable sister, a supportive spouse, a respected mother, and a trusted friend.  Cheryl was a fighter who had fought a long courageous battle with her illness.  She found peace, comfort and solace when surrounded by family and friends.  She loved caring for animals (especially D’OG, Chloe, Mona and Bella) and enjoyed bird watching.  She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Robert and Thomas Royston.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of almost 26 years, Steven Jenkins of Gates, NC; Children, Daniel Brunner and his wife Deborah of Gates, NC, Heather Monge and her husband Edgar of Chesapeake, VA and Trevor Brunner of Portsmouth, VA;  Siblings Suzanne Habada of Mazomanie, WI, and Jack and Chuck Royston of Sauk City, WI; Best friend, she was like a sister, Michelle Grimes of Gates, NC; Grandchildren, Lauren, Alegria, Sophia, Tyler, Collin, DJ, Brianna, and Savannah.
The immediate family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Chesapeake, VA.  A Life Celebration service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11:00 am with a burial following at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens on Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA.
To assist the family with the many unforeseen funeral expenses, please make a donation in honor of Cheryl’s memory at www.tmcfunding.com.  Your small contribution, in lieu of flowers, will be greatly appreciated during this time of mourning.  The family would like to thank the hospital and staff at Duke for the outstanding and compassionate care they had provided Cheryl.  They would also like to provide a special thank-you to the transplant family of Cheryl.

Sorry for your loss Steven and Gloria. I only met Cheryl a couple of times but from that brief encounter I could tell she was a wonderful lady. May she rest in peace and be comforted that she is at peace and in God’s loving hands. Cherish her memories until the day you meet again.
