Charles Maynard Shaffer Sr.

Virginia Beach- Charles Maynard “Chuck” Shaffer, Sr., 84, passed away unexpectedly in Inverness, Florida, February 10, 2016. Born June 10, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving in both the U.S. Army and Navy. Chuck served the citizens of Norfolk as a Fire Apparatus Operator with the Norfolk Fire Department retiring after 37 years. He was the owner/operator of Shaffer’s Texaco Station and Shaffer’s Towing & Repair Service in Norfolk.Chuck loved Florida and in the past few years had become a “snowbird” residing in Inverness, Florida. He also loved RVing and was past President and Wagonmaster of the Colonial Virginians RV Club. Predeceased by his three brothers, Raymond, Harry, and Joey; left to cherish his memory is his loving dedicated wife, Linda; their 5 children, Charles, Jr., Stephen Shaffer, Patricia Dorsch, Cindee Hakim, and Carrie Darling; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held April 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd, Virginia Beach with Norfolk Fire-Rescue Honor Guard in attendance.
