It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved son Charlie “Bear” Russell, III on May 7th, 2022. He was a long-time resident of Hampton, VA and a carpenter. He is survived by his daughter, Nia Hamlin, parents Kevin Brown (Charles Townes Sr.), Charlie Russell Jr. (Janis Russell), Grandmother, Arrie Stevens, siblings, Thomas Russell, Jennifer Wimbush, Joshua Townes, Arethea “Troy” Torres-Monge (Augustin Torres), Hayley Stringfield (Roderick Stringfield), Rachel Townes, and Morgan Stokes (Travis Stokes). He also leaves behind a whole host of cousins all over the United States. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Ford C Swan Sr. and Dorothy Swan, Charlie Russell Sr. and Virginia O. Russell, Charles Stevens, Aunt Lottie Harris and, Uncles, Bradford Swan and Ford C Swan Jr.
Charlie attended Phoebus High School and graduated in 1995. Post-graduation, Charlie attended Ferrum College on a football scholarship before switching carriers to work in carpentry. Charlie “Bear” had the biggest heart of anyone we knew. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and loved his family fiercely. He was well known throughout Hampton Roads for being a jack of all trades.
