Charlene Lea McGuire entered this life on January 6, 1946. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother when she went to the Lord on August 11, 2023, in the presence of her daughter and son-in-law. Charlene was preceded in passing by her mother, Sophia M. Baum, her father Hall F. Brunson, her previous husband Bobby R. Allen, and was widowed by Harry J. McGuire.
She leaves behind her children: Kevin R. McGuire, and his children, Michael McGuire and his two children, and Amanda (Brian) Wooley and their three children; Karen L. Leckemby and her husband Jeffrey and their four children, Amanda Leckemby, and her four children, Stephen (Katelyn) Leckemby and their four children, Sarah, and Hannah Leckemby; Steven and Holly McGuire and their three children Steven Jr., Juliene, and Isaac. Charlene also leaves behind her sister, Barbara, and brothers Eldon and Robert, their children, and their grandchildren.
Charlene was a no-nonsense woman. She loved to watch Days of our Lives, of which she never missed an episode since it began on November 8, 1965. She also loved to watch sports and was a volunteer with the North Rialto Little League in Rialto California. After moving to Hampton Virginia in 2006, she started volunteering at her granddaughter’s elementary school, Mary Jackson (previously known as Tucker-Capps). Charlene then became a substitute at Mary Jackson. She was also a substitute for her daughter Karen at Langley Elementary, Kecoughtan High School, Hampton High School, as well as many other schools throughout the school division. She was featured in the Daily Press for her volunteerism. Charlene was also an avid supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s PTAs, having served as a treasurer and volunteer for several after prom events. She was also a seamstress for the Kecoughtan Show Choir and for countless other individuals that sought her sewing skills. Charlene always pitched in when there was a need; helping make copies, laminating, and being Mrs. Burkholders classroom grandma. Charlene ended her substituting and became a cafeteria monitor at Mary Jackson until January 2022 when she became ill. She took treatments like a champ and had high hopes for many more years. Unfortunately, that was not to be.
Services will be held on Saturday, 26th at 4:00 p.m. at Mary Jackson Fundamental School, 113 Wellington Drive, Hampton. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating on Charlene’s behalf to the faculty hospitality fund for Mary Jackson.
Cremation services are being provided by Altmeyer Funeral and Crematory.
