Cecil Fletcher Edwards Jr.

May 23, 1956 - June 28, 2023

05/23/1956 - 06/28/2023

Cecil “Sonny” Fletcher Edwards, Jr, was called to peace on June 28, 2023, after struggling with multiple illnesses. Born on May 23, 1956, to Cecil F. Edwards and Gladys S. Harris in Portsmouth, Virginia, Sonny was a lifelong lover of computers, electronics, and learning.

Cecil attended Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, where he received a full scholarship to Virginia Wesleyan University and studied business economics. He relocated to Alabama, where he continued his education at Southwest State Technical College. He started at Mobile Marine Radio, working as an engineer in their Ship to Shore Operation in Mobile.

The move to Alabama turned out to be life changing for Sonny, as he met and married the late Constance Edwards and adopted her daughter Sabrina in September of 1991. The two were blessed with baby girl Danielle, two years later in 1993.

In 1999, Cecil brought Danielle home to the Hampton Roads area where he worked as a Senior Electronic Technician for the Portsmouth Public School System and got to spend more quality time with his mom and siblings. Sonny had a variety of hobbies and interests. He was a big fan of classic monster movies and science fiction. He liked history and documentaries and loved weird random facts. He was a wealth of information on odd trivia and forgotten family memories and he loved to laugh.

Sonny was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a loyal and devoted friend. He was a kind and generous man. He cherished his daughters and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil F. Edwards, his mother, Gladys S. Harris, his stepfather, Robert C. Harris and his beloved daughter Danielle Mae Edwards.

He is survived by his daughter Sabrina M. Perone; his granddaughters Melody, Meadow and Stella Henning; his sisters Deborah Watts and Melisa Graef (Ron); his brother Robert Edwards (Cathy); his nieces Alanna Watts, Jessica Kravitz (John), Cailin Watts (Bruce Nelson); his nephew Zachary Edwards; great niece Mia Nelson and great nephews Bruce Nelson III and Tucker Nelson.
