It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carsen C. Harrell, aged 20, on November 8th, 2023. Known for his kind and sweet-hearted nature, Carsen left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched.

Carsen was a dedicated student at Tidewater Community College and had recently accepted an offer to be a part of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Apprentice Program, reflecting his hard work and ambition. His passion for fitness and community was evident at Chic’s Beach Crossfit, where he was not only a participant but a cherished coach. His gym family recalls how Carsen’s youthful spirit and infectious energy brightened their days and created a positive atmosphere. His commitment to encouraging and supporting those around him was unparalleled, making him a beloved figure both in and out of the gym. His enthusiasm extended to his work at MWR Food and Beverage at the Naval Station Norfolk, where his energy, smile, and commendable work ethic were a source of inspiration.

Carsen was always ready to join his sisters, parents, and brothers-in-law for hangouts, participate in family game nights, and play with his nephew and niece during their visits, even once going so far as to fly to CO to run and complete a 13 mile Tough Mudder with family. His unique mind and humor will be dearly missed, but fondly remembered.

We take comfort in knowing that Carsen is now with God. In his final week, we witnessed how God held him close, blessing him with deeply unique and special moments with many people in his life.

Carsen is survived by his loving parents, Marshall and Jackie Harrell; his sisters, Meghan Bozzay (Paul) and Merritt Gilbert (Evan); his nephew, William Bozzay, and niece, Louise Gilbert as well as his extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. His untimely departure is a deeply felt loss, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and the power of community.

A Celebration of Life for Carsen will be held at Chics Beach Crossfit on December 30th from 2-4 pm. His family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and invites those who knew Carsen to share their memories and celebrate a life that, though brief, was incredibly impactful.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Good Fight Foundation, a cause in which Carsen strongly believed.
