Carmen G. Torres departed this life for a better one on March 22, 2022. She was the daughter of Confesor Torres and Maria Perez Torres. Carmen was born on July 12, 1938 in Camuy, PR and moved to New York in 1972, where she worked in the manufacturing sector until she moved to Virginia Beach in 1988, where she worked at US Navy installations as a residential attendant, until her retirement.
Carmen’s humble origins were not a deterrent to her drive for a better life for her and her children. Through hard work, persistence, and relentless optimism, she made the best out of the opportunities she found in her new home and created a wonderful new life. Carmen worked for almost 20 years for the US Navy MWR services, where she distinguished herself for her dedication to excellence, caring and respect for the military personnel she served with pride, and exemplary discharge of her duties, for which she received several recognitions and awards. Carmen was a model of dedication to her family. Through her own example, she taught her children to be responsible, hard-working, productive citizens, as well as kind, generous human beings. She left a legacy of love, generosity, laughter, and beautiful memories for her family and friends.
Carmen will be deeply missed by her children: Jose Mendez and his wife Miriam, Jorge Mendez and wife Ana, and Carmen Mendez. She will forever live in the memories of her grandchildren: Carlos, Caleb, Jose, Miriam, Enrique, Melissa, and Jorge; and her great-grandchildren: Jackson, Olivia, Denver, Alegra, Isaac, Caleb Jr., Christian, Isaac, Isaiah, and Emmanuel, through the rich legacy of stories and anecdotes she left us from a life well lived.
