Brittany Chelsea Cashwell was born on September 28, 1995, in Norfolk, Virginia, and passed from this life on May 28, 2020. She rests peacefully in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus. From the beginning, she struggled for her life. She was always so brave and stronger than any of us. She survived hospital visits and procedures time after time. The most beautiful angel girl with the sweetest joyful spirit, who endeared herself to everyone she met.
Brittany was predeceased by her mother,Cynthia Jean Cashwell, and two grandfathers: Douglas S. Morelen and LeRoy Guthrie. Left to cherish and honor her memory are grandmothers Billie Jean Guthrie and Bonnie Morelen, Aunts Christine J. Horwatt, Melissa Daughtry and DeLayne Guthrie, Uncles Douglas S. Morelen, Michael H. Morelen, and Michael G. Kallberg (Lana Hayes), numerous cousins and friends, Sunday School teachers and classmates, and the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church family.
Brittany loved children, especially those with disabilities. She was full of love and caring for all people – anything she could do to help others was always her primary concern. She loved JESUS and loved going to church and Sunday School – she did not want to miss any event, and always said Jesus wanted her to be there! Her favorite end to a prayer or song was AMEN!! … spoken as loudly as she possibly could.
Brittany loved her two cats, Millie-Coco Beanie Weanie El Gato Morelen, and Nona Mae Morelen baby kitten-cat pickalilly. She also treasured her three dolls, Silly Sally, Molly and Anora … they traveled her life journey with her through all the ups and downs – they were indeed part of our family.
She was the dearest and most beautiful girl in this world. We were honored and blessed to be part of her life. She will be tremendously missed, remembered, and treasured in our hearts forever. She is now safe with God and no disabilities – thanks be to God!
We offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to all who helped with her care, both in-home and at the hospital.
A celebration service of Brittany’s life will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020, at 6 p.m., with visitation and viewing immediately prior from4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Location is Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, Southside Chapel,5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach 23462. My first encounter with Brittany was a meeting in the hallway at the CSB. She greeted me with the most beautiful smile. This was the first day we met. My job was to advocate for Brittany so that she could have the life that she wanted despite her disabilities. She was very vocal about her wants and needs and made sure that we all was attentive (LOL). Brittany always made sure that she gave me a hug and a smile with each encounter until she wasn’t able to in April 2019. At the time that she was hospitalized she was a warrior. She fought each day to prove that she was meant to be here with us all. I was in awe of her determination and I made sure that I witness her journey from a hospital bed to rehabilitation. The last time that I saw Brittany she was talking, smiling and excited to show me that she could walk again. She looked at me funny when she saw the tears that welded in my eyes. She asked me why I was crying and I told her because I just witnessed the miracle of God. Before I left her that day I gave her the biggest hug and kiss on the cheek. The last moment I had with her she left me with her smile. I will forever adore and miss you Brittany. Keep smiling Beautiful Girl!

Brittany will be missed by many and certainly me. She was always so sweet and loving. She really appreciated her appointments with me and I looked forward to them because she could always cheer me up. With all of her health issues she really tried hard to do her best to follow the medical advice. She will be missed. May her memory be a blessing to all those she touched.

Brittany will always have a special place in my heart. I knew her during her Greenbrier Middle School years. I hold fond memories of her in our classes, and particularly when we took field trips to restaurants, bowling alleys and the Triple R Ranch. Brittany was not the least bit bashful, and never met a stranger. Heaven has gained a wonderful, caring angel. My thoughts and prayers for her family and friends.
