Betty Hinton Looper

Betty Hinton Looper, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2017, after a long battle with dementia.
She was a native of Easley, SC, and had been a resident of Newport News for 53 years. Mrs. Looper was employed by Newport News Savings and Loan as a Corporate Secretary until the bank closed. She then went to work for Williamsburg Hospitality in Williamsburg, Virginia until she retired. She enjoyed learning to fly and was one for first females in the area to achieve her private license. She and her husband enjoyed traveling across the country with family and quick flights for Sunday lunches, loved going to Bermuda with her longtime friend, Gale Bryant and Lottie Paynter, and people watching along the wall on Buckroe Beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph William Looper, her parents, Ernest.
Thomas Hinton and Mildred Faye Hinton, her sister Alice Looper, and brothers Bert and Tommie Hinton.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Carter Looper Ruckel and her husband, Anthony of Williamsburg, sister- in-law, Willie (Billie) Meetze Hinton of Greensboro, NC; nieces and nephews, Joe Ed Looper, Jr, and his wife, Joan, Patricia Hardin and husband Ted, and Nell Looper Lundy, all of South Carolina, Deborah Meetze Hinton and her husband, Reid Rowlett of Bethesda, MD, Carl-Henry Geschwind of Virginia and William F. Geschwind and his wife, Beth of North Carolina, lots of great nieces and nephews, and host of many friends.
The burial will be held at a later date in Easley, SC to beside her husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA, 523 J- Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News, VA 23601, since she loved all animals or the Alzheimer’s Association, so more can be done to find a cure.
