Betsy J. Daughtridge, 74, went to be with her Lord, Thursday, November 17, 2016. She was surrounded by the comfort of prayerful thoughts, and the love of her family and friends. We are sure she is rejoicing to be reunited with her husband, (Bill), her mother, (Ruth Joyner), her sisters (Bonita Boone and Jeanette Stark), her brothers (Herbert Joyner and Johnny Joyner), and her father (Otha Joyner). She will be dearly missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Terri Abraham(Craig), Lori Stanley(Donald); her grandchildren Kari Ritzo (Jonathan), Lindsey Stanley, and Ryan Abraham; brothers Jackson (Dolly) Joyner, Arnold (Dolly) Joyner, Carson(Beverly) Joyner, Tony(Gail)Joyner; her sister Myrtle (Pete) Flowers; and a host of nieces and nephews and other friends and relatives. Betsy was a wonderful mother, loving wife, and faithful friend. She worked for over 30 years for First Baptist Church of Norfolk. She loved the Lord and relied on His strength to finally win her battle with cancer. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25th at Altmeyer Funeral Home 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. The funeral will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26th at Altmeyers, with Dick Baker and Eric Thomas presiding. Interment will follow immediately at Rosewood Memorial Park 631 North Witchduck Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, or First Baptist Church of Norfolk. Condolences may be expressed at www.Altmeyer.com.

We still can’t believe that our sweet, spunky Aunt Betsy is gone. She was such a wonderful person — so loving and goodhearted. And she loved her Lord! I have so many fond memories of her from my childhood. I can see her face with her sparkling eyes and beautiful grin, and hear her voice and laughter (which was so infectious!). She was sassy in the best of ways, and was always so “put together” 🙂 We are so blessed to have her in our family, our hearts, and our memories. I know she is dancing in Heaven with Uncle Bill, happy and cancer-free, and that image brings a smile to my face in the midst of this sadness. We love you all so much and are praying that God wraps his loving arms around you and brings you comfort and peace. We are here for you.

Love,
Kristi and JP

We will forever admire her courage and strength and will forever miss her smile and beautiful sense of humor. Although we are greatly saddened by Aunt Betsy’s passing, we find so much peace in knowing that she is again with Uncle Bill and in the arms of our Lord. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, we love you all!

Betsy was one of the strongest and hardest working women I know. Following her Bill’s illness and death, she took on the fight against cancer. Those that worked with her were amazed at her work ethic; getting chemo treatment on Friday afternoon and be back at her desk on Monday. She was a great secretary to several of the pastors at First Baptist Church of Norfolk and made their ministries run so smoothly. Prayers for her family.
