Barbara “Bobbi” Messenger passed away December 28 in Virginia Beach. She was born to Charles and Gloria Tripp in Riverside, California and grew up in Apalachin, New York. Barbara graduated from Owego Free Academy in 1963 and went on to raise two beautiful sons who she is very proud of. Barbara worked in jewelry sales up until her death. She loved reading, cruising every year with her sister Lilli, celebrating Christmas and was always active and enjoying life. She loved her dogs Bucky and Cookie but most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara was all about family, always giving and always planning for the next family reunion. She is survived by her sons; Darrin (Rollyn) Cartwright of  Canton Georgia and David Messenger of Virginia Beach; sibling Donna (John) Reynold of Endwell, New York, Karl Tripp of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, Kenneth (Sue) Tripp of Apalachin, New York, Kurt (Debbie) Tripp of Stafford, Virginia, and Lilli Benson of Cordova, Tennessee; grandchildren Justin, Jacqueline and Angelina; and great grandchildren Miles and Will. Barbara was also survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins. Bobbi was the matriarch of the “Tripp Tribe”. She would want tradition and reunions to continue and is leaving this in the capable hands of the “outlaws” Sue and Debbie who she loved so dearly.
A visitation will be held for Barbara on Saturday, January 15, 2021 at 1:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm.

Very rare that I can say I loved a complete stranger on the day I met them. She was the one who sold me my wedding bands 25 years ago. During the purchase we were chit chatting and realized we were actually family, her being mother-in-law to my cousin. What a ray of sunshine she has been in our lives. And she will be missed and remembered with love. Sending our deepest condolences to all of her friends and family. I love you Tita Barbara. ❤️
