Barbara Joan (Bobbie) Hankinson, 82, passed away on August 25, 2015. She was born in Bayonne, NJ.
She is survived by her mother Hedwig Urban, her husband Stanley J. Hankinson and their six children and spouses: Stanley and LaDonna and their children Stanley, Benjamin, Zachary and David; Suzanne Hook and her children Derrick and Cynthia (with her husband Justin and their children Madison, Alexander, David and Jacson); Sharon and Scott Pitz and their daughter Samantha; Stephen and Susan and their children Zandra and Carson; Scott and Marie and their children Natalie (and her husband Kyle), Rachel and Michael; and John and Dawn and their children Rebekkah, Garrett and Gabrielle. She is also survived by her brother Donald and his wife, Joan.
Barbara worked at Bell Labs in Whippany, NJ where she met her husband. After taking time to raise her six children, she was a salad chef for Rock Oak Lodge in Sparta NJ, drove a bus for Jefferson Township for twelve years and advanced to be the Director of Transportation for Sparta Township for fifteen years. She retired to Virginia Beach in 1996 with her husband where she continued to enjoy her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was active in the greeter and lector ministries at Star of the Sea Church and in her community as the Secretary of the Hillcrest Farms Homeowners Association. She was always giving of herself and she was loved by all she came in contact with and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive visitors from 11am to 12pm on Saturday, August 29th at Star of the Sea Church, 1404 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 to be immediately followed by a Mass of the Resurrection officiated by Fr. Esteban DeLeon. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, in Hackettstown, NJ at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to Star of Sea Church or to the Intrepid Hospice/National Hospice Foundation, 4510 Holland Office Park, Suite 503, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
