Aurea Arroyo Mendoza, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 97. Born on August 24, 1926, in the beautiful Philippines, Aurea led a life that was filled with love, dedication, and an unwavering faith in Catholicism.
Aurea was a devoted homemaker who poured her heart and soul into creating a warm and nurturing environment for her family. Her love knew no bounds, and she dedicated herself to raising her children with an abundance of care and affection. Aurea’s home was always filled with delicious aromas as she indulged in her passion for cooking, creating meals that brought joy and comfort to those she cherished.
Beyond her talents in the kitchen, Aurea had a green thumb and found solace in tending to her garden. She possessed an innate ability to cultivate and nurture life, which was evident in the vibrant blooms and lush foliage that surrounded her home. Her love for gardening mirrored her tender care for her children and extended family.
A devout Catholic, Aurea found solace and strength in her faith. She was a loyal member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, where she found inspiration and guidance. Aurea’s devotion to her religion was evident in the way she lived her life, always embodying compassion, forgiveness, and love.
Aurea’s journey began in Pampanga, Philippines, where she grew up, and later moved to Lubao, Philippines. These experiences shaped her character, instilling in her a strong work ethic, resilience, and an appreciation for the simple joys of life. Aurea carried these values with her throughout her years, passing them down to her children and spreading kindness and warmth to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Aurea was preceded in death by her husband, Alejandro B. Mendoza, parents, Zaccarias Arroyo and Norberta Arroyo, as well as six of her children. Though their absence is deeply felt, Aurea’s memory lives on through her surviving six children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love and devotion will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched.
Aurea leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and strength. She will forever be remembered as a selfless mother, a doting grandmother, and a guiding light in the lives of those she loved. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 10:00-4:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home located at 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA, 23462. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 1:00pm at St. Luke’s Catholic church followed by a graveside service at Rosewood Memorial Park. A reception will follow at Altmeyer Funeral Home.
