God called home Antonio Nigel Hopkins on Monday August 28, 2023. Gone too soon, Tony Hop, as he was affectionately called by many, and Dad as he was called by his children, loved life and enjoyed the company of his long time friends.
Antonio Nigel Hopkins was born May 1, 1963 in Newport News, VA to the late Fred and Geraldine Phillips. He was educated in Newport News public school system. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He worked for Commonweath Environmental Services Inc. Janitorial Services in Newport News, VA, cleaning and maintaining large building from February 1995-2023. When he wasn’t working, his favorite past time was to be with friends and family, cheering on his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Antonio Hopkins leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Latasha Tamika Galloway, Jenea Monique Hopkins of Newport News; four grandchildren, two brothers Vincent Hopkins, Glenn Phillips, and two sisters Stacey Hopkins, and Desiree Hunt of Newport News VA, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and close friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 10-12pm with a service will follow at 12pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Ave. Newport News, VA 23608.

My sincere condolences to Tony’s family. I had the pleasure of knowing this kind and gentle man for many years while working at Huntington Hall. He was our “go to” guy and was always there whenever he was needed. Though words can do little to comfort your family right now, may the thoughts and prayers of all who knew him help provide some support for each of you during this difficult time. He will surely be missed. May he rest in peace. God Bless You.
