Anne Elizabeth “Pooh” Spear passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of June 10, 2022. She was a loving wife of 47 years, a devoted mother, grandmother, “Hamma” to her granddog Riley, and dedicated friend to many. She enjoyed life, family members and friends. Liz was always there to brighten the lives of others.
Pooh was born and raised in Princeton, Indiana where she graduated from Princeton High School in 1972. She was fun-loving, adventurous and smart.
During her college life, she met the love of her life, Ron Spear, after joining the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Indiana State University. They went on to enjoy 47 years of marriage and were blessed with two children and one grandson. She had a gratifying career for over 40 years in banking and helped countless families and small businesses succeed with her financial guidance. Her gift was helping others navigate finances with kindness. She was a committed volunteer for her son’s Boy Scout Troop 12. She worked tirelessly to ensure that all scouts could go to camp and participate in all group trips. She also volunteered for many years as an accountant for the St. Matthew’s Catholic School Spring Carnival.
Liz relished making other people feel loved and appreciated. She showed this best by hosting parties or gatherings of friends and family. She hosted annual holiday events, backyard barbecues, baby/ bridal showers, and birthday parties. Everyone was made to feel especially welcome and comfortable at Pooh’s home. She would have homemade cookies waiting for her family every time they traveled home. A margarita bucket was always ready in the fridge for any drop-in guest to relax and enjoy a cold drink. If you asked her to bring a potluck dish, be ready to have her bring enough food to feed an army. Cooking was her love language.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Margaret “Peg” Phillips.
Left to cherish her life is her husband Ronald Spear; daughter Brittany (Christopher) Samulski; son Logan Spear (Ruhi Srinivasan); grandson Alexander Samulski; sister Susie (Byron) Harrod; brothers Jim (Connie) Phillips, Rick Phillips, Chris (Sharon) Phillips; and multiple nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Liz did not care for funerals, but loved throwing a good party. We will be hosting a final party for her. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Anne Elizabeth “Pooh” Spear at Altmeyer Funeral Home 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462 on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 4:00pm. Plan to come in comfortable, casual attire with lots of memories and stories to share.
