Mrs. Chang Bok Lee (ne Choi, Chang Bok) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on 2/6/2024. She was born in Hungnam, North Korea on June 1, 1928, under the Japanese occupation of Korean peninsula. She was much loved only daughter with 3 brothers. Her father, Choi, Hae Sun, mother, Park, Bule Sule built a successful seafood family business and enjoyed much prosperity. After WWII, Korea was liberated from Japanese occupation, but Korean civil war broke out in 1950. Her entire family had to escape to South Korea from communist North.
She suffered unspeakable hardships, tragedies and loss as refugees during the war. Later divine faith intervened, and Mrs. Chang Bok Lee met her husband, Ja Hyun Lee, an air force lieutenant and teacher. They married in Daegu South Korea on 6/13/ 1952. After the war, her husband went to USA to further his studies to obtain PhD in physics. Mrs. Chang Bok Lee stayed back at home and raised 4 little children all by herself despite hardships for 4 years. In 1967 Mr. and Mrs. Lee came to USA with 2 of her children for 2-year research in Physics. However, the USA government was pioneering the space exploration by NASA and asked Mr. Lee to stay to be part of the NASA research team. Because Mrs. Lee did not complain nor insisted on going back home to Korea, Mr. Lee decided to accept the US government’s offer to immigrate to USA.

In the US, she had to learn a totally new language, culture and systems. Despite difficulties, she worked day and night raising 4 children, supporting her husband and caring for 5 grandchildren as well as 5 dogs of all ages and breed. She showed unlimited energy and unconditional love to everyone. Mrs. Chang Bok Lee had several hobbies including gardening, especially roses, sewing, making most of Her’s and children’s clothes, flower arrangements, and cooking. She was a devoted Christian with deep faith in GOD and belonged to Second Presbyterian Church, now merged with Denbigh United Presbyterian Church. Her unconditional love and caring extended beyond just family and friends. Whoever came in contact with her could feel the love and compassion she has for everyone.

Mrs. Chang Bok Lee lived a full and meaningful life for 95 yrs., married for 68 yrs., until her husband passed away in 2020. Her last words to the family were “When you are happy, I am happy. Live your life with joy and happiness and gratitude. Love each other unconditionally. Do not waste time grieving too long.”

We love you mom. Rest in peace, united with dad in the loving arms of our Lord GOD in heaven.
Mrs Chang Bok Lee is survived by 4 children: Younggil Tim Lee MS, ( wife- Aesook Ann Lee), Yeungsook Lee MA, Insook Ina Lee MD, Yeung Wook Lee MD.
( wife J Amy Yun MD). 5 Grand children: Albert, John, Joseph, Mathew, Elizabeth Lee. Also in South Korea, She is survived by her younger brother Choi Chang Rok MD, many nieces, nephews, relatives who love her and loved in return.
