Gwenda Hopkins, born on May 20, 1951, peacefully passed away on June 2, 2023, at the age of 72. She will be remembered for her unwavering dedication and the impact she made during her time with us. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lillie Lee Cotton. She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Florence Price and Sylvia C. Diggs and two brothers, Melvin Cotton, Sr., and Donald Ray Cotton.
Gwenda had an illustrious career as a Business Process Analyst for the Department of Defense. Her commitment and expertise in her field allowed her to contribute significantly to the organization’s mission. Gwenda’s professionalism and attention to detail were renowned among her peers.
Gwenda’s academic accomplishments also shone brightly throughout her life. She proudly earned her Master of Business Administration from Averett University, further enhancing her expertise and opening doors to new opportunities.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Gwenda had a diverse range of interests that brought joy to her life. She was an avid enthusiast of video games and even hosted her own podcast called “Mom’s Minute.” Her love for gaming extended beyond the virtual realm, with Gwenda spending countless hours discussing and analyzing the intricate details of various games.
In addition to her passion for gaming, Gwenda found solace in the world of literature. Reading was an integral part of her life, and she cherished the moments spent lost in the pages of captivating authors. Gwenda’s thirst for knowledge led her to explore different genres and authors, broadening her intellectual horizons.
In between her professional and personal pursuits, Gwenda always made time for travel. Whether it was exploring exotic destinations or embarking on road trips with loved ones, she valued the experiences and memories created through her adventures. Gwenda’s zest for life was evident in her desire to embrace new cultures and immerse herself in unfamiliar surroundings.
Those left to cherish Gwenda’s memory are her beloved sons, Derrick Hopkins and Travis Hopkins. She was also survived by her caring sisters, Linda Goffigan and Vanessa Cotton. Gwenda’s loving presence will be sorely missed by her family and friends, who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
