Frances Arlene Wright passed away peacefully on Saturday June 17th, 2023. She was the wife of the late Melvin C. Wright, Jr. She was the daughter of the late James and Susie
Smith.
Frances was educated in the Beckley WV public school system. She was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for over thirty-five years. A lover of people, Frances’ assertion of her life's work was profoundly defined by helping those who couldn’t help themselves. She had a heart full of compassion for others.
Frances enjoyed the beautiful things of life. She had a love for painting. Among her most treasured moments was her paintings and her tender care of plants. She also loved to shop-
especially for beautiful jewelry. Frances was a nurturer. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved being all of these things. Her home was always open to all. She was a mother not only to her own children, but nurtured several other children, and raised them as her own. Frances was there for all the children. She helped them in their endeavors. She encouraged all the children to do what’s right. She lived by the golden rule and encouraged her children to do the same. One of her favorite sayings was, “God don’t like ugly.” She walked in hospitality. Frances was the seventh of fourteen children. She was preceded in death by brothers Herbert H. Smith, James B. Smith, Charles Smith, John Smith, Frazier Smith, and sister, Margaret Moore.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters-Charmell Wright and Ella Matthews of Newport News, VA; Lisa Bowles of Hampton, VA; one son, Melvin Wright III of
Hampton, VA; two sisters, Mary Green and Charlotte Logan of Beckley, WV; three brothers, Homer Smith , Joe Smith, and Raymond Smith of Beckley, WV; grandchildren, Ava Wright, Tamisha Wright, Kenneth Wright, Khristopher Wright, Frances Armstrong (Phillip), Monica Leftwich, Jonathan Bowles, Jennifer Moon (Joshua), Julia Bowles, Jacqueline Maddox, Jillian Bowles, and Patricia Lynn Parker II; great grandchildren, Akaiya Wright, Edwin Jarrell, Jaylen Wright, Andre Arroyo-Wright, Emoni Jarrell; Elijah Armstrong, Isaiah Armstrong, Kira Norris, Lani Norris, Emilia Linda Moon, Ezra James Moon, and Rose Bella Cook and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Francis was a beautiful and loving person inside and out. I enjoyed working with her. I always appreciated her sharing so much knowledge with me and teaching me things. She loved taking care of each resident at our place of employment. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends. May she forever rest in peace.
My condolences and prayers to all the family with this great loss.
Sending love and prayers for the family 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Frances was my next door neighbor. I enjoyed our conversations on her front porch. We talked about her plants and whatever she had in her hands that she was trying to fix or make it better. She had a dry sense of humor but always a smile on her face. I will miss her.
Sending you love and prayers from St. John United Holy Church, Beckley,West Virginia
